“Every Child. Every Day. Every Way”

Journey Elementary supports a Whole Child philosophy focusing on providing an engaging learning environment for students, based on differentiated instruction. The school does this through enrichment opportunities as well as extra support with close links back into the local community. Students are provided opportunities with science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) and project-based learning (PBL) through outdoor real-world, hands-on learning. This includes the onsite greenhouse and outdoor classroom.

Programs

Engaged/Challenged – Each student is: actively engaged in learning; connected to the school and the broader community; challenged academically through the curriculum and instruction which provides the opportunities for students to develop critical thinking and reasoning skills for problem solving competencies and technology proficiencies.

Supported/Safe – Each student: has access to personalized learning; is supported by highly-qualified and caring adults who focus on their academic and personal growth through strong, positive relationships; learns in an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for students and adults. Journey uses Restorative Practices in all of their daily relationship/community building.

Sustainable- The Whole Child approach is a cornerstone of the school improvement plan and is included in the data collection and analysis process.

Healthy – The school supports health in each student by teaching correct practices for healthy lifestyles. Journey has an onsite greenhouse that students help plant, harvest, and enjoy the produce. Journey also teaches Mindfulness to support students in regulation and self awareness.

Activities

School activities support the tenets given above: Engaged/Challenged, Supported/Safe, Sustainable and Healthy.
