“Together with students and families, the CYMS Community will:
Implement a high-quality curriculum with fidelity
Teach and model expectations for academics and character
Demonstrate our commitment to excellence in all interactions
Provide a safe and healthy learning environment”

CY Middle School fully meets expectations in the State Accountability Model since 2019.

CY Middle School is the home of the Cyclones! CYMS offers interdisciplinary, grade-level CORE teams, creating smaller learning communities that help students transition from elementary to middle school.

“Where Everybody Belongs” (WEB) is a unique orientation/transition program for incoming students connecting 8th grade students with incoming 6th graders to help them transition to our school in a comforting and welcoming way.

CY has a focus on safety with a full-time Casper Police Department School Response Officer, Behavior Specialist Personnel, and Administrative Manager, teaming to provide the best support for students, parents, and staff.

CY is a Character Strong School! CY believes in developing the whole child, supporting students' social emotional learning (SEL) and character development in one schoolwide curriculum. Character Strong lessons include:
  • SEL Competencies: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, Responsible Decision-Making
  • Character Development: Patience, Kindness, Honesty, Respect, Selflessness, Forgiveness, Commitment, Humility

Programs

Each grade level has its own separate area that is also split up into two “CORES” per grade level. Each grade level has a separate, closed campus lunch period.

Students are enrolled in CORE language arts, math, science, social studies, and physical education. The Summit Program is designed for academically high-achieving students. Our special education teachers co-teach mainstream core classes using the inclusion model.

Students choose from a wide variety of elective classes to match their skills and interests and explore real world connections. We have a full schedule of fine arts electives including Art, Band, Choir, and Orchestra. We have two up-to-date Career and Technical Education (CTE) labs, Computer Science, and a Family and Consumer Science (FACS) room with full kitchen stations. We have the most World Language offerings of any middle school in Wyoming, including opportunities in Spanish, Russian, and Mandarin Chinese. We also offer Destination Imagination (DI) as an elective class.

The CY Dual Language Immersion Program offers elementary DLI students a middle school opportunity to continue their study of Mandarin Chinese in an immersion setting.

The CY Gifted and Talented Program offers self-contained classroom opportunities for identified GT students. Instruction is individualized, problem-based, project-based, and integrated to encourage critical thinking and problem solving.

CY offers a before and after-school Bridges Extended Day Program for extra support with standards, homework, classwork, missing work and organizational skills.

Technology standards are embedded in students’ learning activities across content areas. Students have the opportunity to learn how to use and operate industry standard technology.

CY is designed to capture natural sunlight. A wind turbine provides enough power for student and staff laptops. Social learning spaces for each grade level and the Cyclone Café provide relaxing settings for collaborative work.
