Destination Imagination is a creative problem-solving program that is 100% student-driven. Student teams are given academic challenges designed to teach the creative process—a system of learning that is at the root of innovation and a child’s ability to bring an idea to life. Each season, DI offers new and engaging Team Challenges that encourage students to explore their passions, discover their unique talents and abilities, and learn new skills. Teams also participate in Instant Challenges—quick creative and critical thinking exercises that build teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
After working for several months, nine teams from CY Middle School showcased their challenge solutions at the state tournament. These teams competed in 4 of the 6 different challenge categories. Four teams from CYMS qualified to move on to the Global level tournament and will take their challenge solutions to Kansas City, Missouri, where they will compete with teams from all over the world.

- The Miccrobuddies earned 1st place in the Scientific category and 1st place in the Scientific category instant challenge.
- The Xtreme Bioluminescent Dinosaurs earned 2nd place in the Scientific category.
- The DI-EI-OOO's earned 1st place in the Technical category.
- The Vacuums earned 2nd place in the Technical category and 1st place in the Technical category instant challenge.
- 3 1/2 Men earned 1st place in the Engineering category and 1st place in the Engineering category instant challenge.
- DAVE earned 2nd place in the Engineering category.
- The Hottie Takis earned 1st place in the Fine Arts category and 1st place in the Fine Arts category instant challenge.
- Who Woulda Guessed earned 2nd place in the Fine Arts category.
- GOAT earned 3rd place in the Fine Arts category.
