Numbers, Teamwork, and Triumph at Regional Math Competition

Consisting of five timed testing sessions, the competition included both individual and team rounds, challenging students to demonstrate their independent analytical skills and also their ability to collaborate and think strategically with their peers.

This year marked the second year Casper College has hosted the central regional event, coordinating testing sessions, scoring, and the day’s culminating awards ceremony. While regional competitions are held throughout the state, scores are aggregated statewide, giving students in Casper the opportunity to compete alongside peers from throughout Wyoming.

Beyond the competition doors, students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities led by the college. Casper College students and staff played a key role in the day’s success, leading campus tours, sharing information about academic programs, and hosting activities while tests were being scored.

Jared James, Casper College Program Coordinator, emphasized the event’s role in celebrating both students and educators across the region.

“I’m excited to see how this event can continue to elevate the work our local math teachers are doing,” James said. “As this competition continues to grow, I think it can help highlight the effort students put into developing these skills and reinforce the value of mathematical learning.”

That success, he noted, reflects a broader community effort.

“It really took the whole community to make the event work, from math teachers preparing students and managing travel logistics to proctoring tests, as well as Casper College faculty coordinating grading and the awards ceremony,” James said.

As scores were finalized and students gathered for the closing ceremony, the atmosphere shifted from quiet concentration to excited celebration as the awards ceremony recognized top-performing individuals and teams.

At the end of the day, students left campus with new experiences, meaningful connections, and a renewed excitement for mathematics. Thank you to all who made the event a resounding success, celebrating students’ educational excellence and inspiring the next generation of STEM learners.

Congratulations to all of the student participants across the region and their exceptional teachers!
