CYMS Students Demonstrate Excellence in Research & Presentation with Mock Trial Event

March 2, 2026

As students walked through the doors of the Townsend Justice Center, they carried with them weeks of preparation, collaboration, and determination. What began as careful investigation and strategic planning in the classroom culminated in an authentic courtroom experience filled with excitement, anticipation, and well-earned confidence. The project was led by CYMS Gifted and Talented Program teacher Whitney Wilking, whose guidance helped students transform rigorous research into compelling courtroom arguments.

During this immersive experience, students assumed the roles of attorneys and witnesses in a civil trial setting. The proceedings were presided over by the Honorable Catherine E. Wilking, District Court Judge for the Seventh Judicial District. Throughout the day, students engaged in the judicial process, applying their understanding of legal procedures, evidence review, and civic responsibility in a real-life environment.

This incredible experience is successful, in part, due to the extended time and expertise of individuals who volunteer to assist students in this exceptional learning experience. A special thank you to Judge Wilking and Mr. Rob Oldham for their mentorship and commitment to encouraging educational excellence.

CY Middle School is committed to implementing a high-quality curriculum with fidelity, teaching and modeling expectations for academics and character, demonstrating their commitment to excellence in all interactions, and providing a safe and healthy learning environment.
