CY Middle School and Paradise Valley Elementary Celebrate Lunar New Year

CY Middle School students showcased their growing linguistic proficiency through impressive performances, sharing the legend of the Chinese New Year and singing songs that convey a positive, enthusiastic, and energetic outlook on life. Following the performances, families and community members gathered to enjoy delicious food, play interactive games, and engage in meaningful cultural activities.

Paradise Valley Elementary presented a dynamic production celebrating the Year of the Horse, blending students’ artistic expression, musical talent, and stage presence. Students shared how the horse symbolizes speed, perseverance, imagination, and youthful energy in Chinese culture. After each performance, families were invited to explore an art gallery featuring exceptional student work inspired by the Lunar New Year.

Paradise Valley Elementary and CY Middle School are home to NCSD's Mandarin Chinese Dual Language Immersion programs. In this program, students are immersed in Mandarin Chinese language and culture. At the elementary level, students receive part of their daily instruction in English and the other half in Mandarin. As students transition to the DLI program in middle school, they participate in specially designed courses that focus on language, literacy, culture, and media.

Paradise Valley is committed to ensuring students will be globally competent through investigating the world around them, recognizing their own and others’ perspectives, communicating ideas, and taking action.

CY Middle School is committed to implementing a high-quality curriculum with fidelity, teaching and modeling expectations for academics and character, demonstrating their commitment to excellence in all interactions, and providing a safe and healthy learning environment.
