The event features one-act performances, workshops, and numerous individual events that encompass all facets of creating theatre and film. “It’s like a state track meet, but instead of students running or jumping, they are acting in scenes, dancing, putting on a musical number, oh, and they are also putting on a complete play, so it’s like a track meet with another team sport thrown in for fun,” shared Zachary Schneider, co-director of NCHS' Thespian Troupe No. 1.
"I am so proud of the work these kids put in over the past few months," Schneider said. "I'm also proud of the many students who helped build this program alongside my co-teacher, Ryan Landmann, and technical director, Bryce Ledbetter."
NCHS holds the prestigious distinction of being the very first official troupe inducted into the International Thespian Society, which now contains over 13,000 troupes worldwide. NCHS's theatre program offers students opportunities to explore various aspects of theatre studies, including acting, stagecraft, costuming, stage makeup, and more. Throughout the year, students craft their artistic skills as they prepare for an exceptional year of talented performances, community engagement, and stage magic!
Founded in 1929, the International Thespian Society (ITS) honors excellence in student theatre, celebrating achievements in both performance and production. Each summer, the International Thespian Festival brings together high school students from across the world to compete and collaborate across all disciplines of theatre. Throughout the school year, NCHS thespians committed to rigorous preparation, honing performance pieces, perfecting costume and makeup design, and refining their craft across all areas of production.
Students who received All-State Honors and Superior rankings will advance to compete this summer at the International Thespian Festival at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
Congratulations, students, on your extraordinary success!
