Recently, NCSD high school students participated in Manufacturing Day in partnership with Casper College and several local business partners. This engaging experience gave students an inside look at the many opportunities available to them in the workforce, along with industry insights and networking opportunities.
Students toured manufacturing facilities, including Atlas Energy Solutions, Compression Leasing Services, Excal Inc., Granite Peak, High Country Fabrication, JW Williams, Mesa Solutions, Austin Engineering, and Wyoming Machinery. Students also had the chance to explore Casper College’s Engineering, Technology, and Advanced Manufacturing programs. Additionally, Manufacturing Works, an affiliate of the University of Wyoming, presented information to students about career options in manufacturing.
Throughout the day, students explored various career opportunities, not only directly related to manufacturing but also the sub-opportunities crucial to supporting the success of manufacturing and trades. These include sales, safety, administration, maintenance, compliance, drafting, engineering, and many others that work in unison to produce the end product.
“This was an eye-opening opportunity for many students,” shared Guy Sallade, NCSD Career Facilitator. We often hear from students that they feel the need to move out of state for career opportunities. This day shows we have so many incredible businesses and career options for students here in Casper and across Wyoming. Manufacturing Day has opened new pathways for students and enhanced their awareness of the incredible business, education, and training opportunities we have in our own backyard.”
Manufacturing (MFG) Day, an initiative of the Manufacturing Institute—the workforce development and education affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers—empowers manufacturers to come together and address their collective challenges and build excitement about manufacturing careers to help their communities and future generations thrive (mfgday.com).
A special THANK YOU to Casper College, Paul Brutsman, Rachel Chadderdon, Kelly Walsh High School, Natrona County High School, Roosevelt High School, Midwest Schools, NCSD Transportation, and all those who supported and encouraged this incredible learning opportunity for students!
