Overview: Wyoming State Statute W.S. 6-8-105
Wyoming State Statute (W.S. § 6-8-105) went into effect July 1, 2025. This law eliminates gun-free zones on school property, allowing concealed carry of firearms.
This law requires all public schools to allow concealed carry on public school property. Natrona County School District complies with all laws.
Board Rule Policy 4020: Firearms Policy (Concealed Carry): Personnel and Volunteers Authorized to Carry
The law only allows school districts to adopt rules regarding training for staff and volunteers who choose to conceal carry firearms.
On July 14th, 2025, NCSD’s Board of Trustees adopted Board Rule Policy 4020: Firearms Policy (Concealed Carry): Personnel and Volunteers Authorized to Carry.
Who is authorized to conceal carry on NCSD property?
- NCSD employees and volunteers who have met all requirements outlined in Board Rule Policy 4020.
- Members of the public who meet concealed carry requirements under the law.
Are students authorized to conceal carry on NCSD property?
- NO. No student is allowed to carry a firearm, concealed or otherwise, on school district property. Any student who carries, possesses, transports or uses a firearm on school district property in any manner will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion.
What is the process for an NCSD employee or volunteer to carry a concealed firearm on school property?
- A valid Wyoming concealed carry permit under W.S. § 6-8-104 must be submitted to the Superintendent or Designee.
- Prior to carrying a concealed weapon on School District property or to any school district event or activity, employees and volunteers shall complete firearms training which includes, at a minimum, the training and curriculum requirements described in this policy.
- Training requirements outlined in Board Rule/Policy 4020 must be met, and documentation of the completed initial training must be submitted to the Superintendent or Designee.
- State statute W.S. § 21-3-136 creates a process for employees to work through the district to receive some reimbursement for qualified training costs.
Who will be notified if an employee/volunteer chooses to conceal carry?
- NCSD Human Resources and direct supervisors.
- This information is considered personnel information and is therefore considered confidential.
What are the requirements for an employee/volunteer to secure their firearm?
- Each employee and volunteer who carries a concealed weapon on school district property or at a school district event or activity shall keep and maintain the firearm on his or her person at all times, or in a concealed, locked, biometric container or lock box within the direct control of the individual at all times.
Is open carry allowed?
- No. Open carry is strictly prohibited on all District property.
