Natrona County High School Students Excel with Speech and Debate

These dedicated students practice and prepare throughout the school year for competitions, with the end goal of qualifying for the Speech & Debate Association’s National Tournament. Students can participate in many different events, including Congressional Debate, Extemporaneous Speech, Poetry, Dramatic Interpretation, and more! With a variety of opportunities, every student's unique talents can shine.

“The main event that I do is a limited prep event, so it is all about being able to think on my feet. I have a very limited amount of time to research the topic, but I go talk about it like I know everything that I am talking about. It makes it a lot easier to talk to adults during regular conversations and interact with others.” ~ Kristen

“Speech & Debate has made me a much better writer and speaker. I am able to speak more eloquently and think through what I am saying.” ~ Brinnan

“I think that not only is Speech & Debate educational, it is a good place for people to let out the parts of them that are impactful and express who they truly are. Even though you are a part of a team, everyone is allowed room for growth and to choose the events they want to try. You get to choose your own specific passion.” ~ Jackson

“Speech & Debate has given me the ability to stand up in front of a crowd and speak. It has also helped me learn to do work more efficiently and just how to talk to people.” ~ CJ
