The collaboration exemplified the spirit of partnership and shared purpose while highlighting the many benefits of CTE—how it provides students with tangible skills, fosters critical thinking, and enhances career readiness. Moreover, it underscored the importance of CTE in contributing to a robust local economy by preparing students for careers that are high in demand and vital to the future of Wyoming and its communities.
In Wyoming, Perkins V provides federal funding for secondary and post-secondary career and technical education opportunities. Through the Perkins Advisory Council, NCSD collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure that Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs meet the needs of students and the community.
Representatives from a wide range of industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, and technology, joined NCSD educators and leaders for thoughtful discussions centered on the evolving needs of businesses and industries and how CTE programs can meet those needs. Those in attendance shared perspectives, expertise, experiences, and insights on work-based learning, certifications for competitiveness in the job market, and ideas on ways to close the skills gap.
One key highlight of the day was the shared recognition of the importance of student internships, job shadows, and hands-on learning experiences. Business leaders and CTE educators discussed ways to create more opportunities for students to expand their learning while gaining real-world experience, which will help them transition from high school to career-ready professionals.
As part of NCSD’s professional development day, the meeting proved valuable for CTE teachers to connect directly with local business leaders, ask questions, gain insights into the latest industry trends, and discuss the resources and tools available to help students achieve educational excellence. This feedback loop—where educators are informed by industry needs—is crucial in ensuring that students are not only learning relevant content but are also prepared to meet the challenges of an ever-changing job market. Business leaders shared their perspectives on the evolving skills required in today’s economy.
In Wyoming, CTE careers are a vital component of the state’s economy. The Natrona County School District serves over 1000 secondary-level students engaged in CTE coursework with 135 CTE course offerings at the high school level. Over 51 exceptional CTE teachers work dedicatedly to ensure that students in Natrona County are well-prepared for their futures in the workforce, college, and beyond.
We would like to thank the business leaders, educators, and community partners who contributed their time and expertise to this incredible day of collaboration and connection. We look forward to our continued partnership as we work together to support all students on their path of educational excellence and future success.
