During the summer, the NCSD Transportation Department participates in professional development training with colleagues from the region to prepare for the upcoming year.
At the annual Wyoming Pupil Transportation Association conference, staff participated in a three-day mechanic workshop, mountain driving, bus driver skills test, and the driver and assistant conference.
NCSD’s Transportation Department holds a five-day professional development training to prepare for another successful school year. During this week, staff members practice procedures for smoke and fire safety, loading and unloading, evacuations, attending to student medical needs, and more. Additionally, the staff work diligently to thoroughly clean buses, review bus routes for efficiency, and prepare for the annual inspection from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Preparing for activity trips and winter weather, drivers participate in the Casper Mountain Training, where they hone their skills driving up and down Casper Mountain. To prepare for extended driving trips, staff also participate in the Powder River Mountain Pass Training, completing a skilled drive to and from Buffalo to Ten Sleep.
District Mechanics work to stay current with the latest information and technology to keep the district’s fleet of vehicles running smoothly. In addition to the state conference workshop, mechanics participate in a four-day event held by BlueBird Academy, mastering the skills needed to support operations and manage the technical aspects of modern buses. This event focuses on preventative maintenance and also engages staff in safety training.
