Course Description 7TH Grade Industrial Technology This class is an introductory vocational class that gives students an opportunity to learn basic design and problem solving skills in pre-vocational areas. Students learn graphics, home, and auto design. Hands-on modules also include problem solving units using K-nex building kits as well as basic electronic circuitry units and building simple structures. 8TH Grade Industrial Technology This is a semester long course for which there is no prerequisite and all materials fees for take home projects must be paid by the student. The metal technology unit includes metal safety, the safety and operations of general sheet metal equipment. Students use this knowledge in the construction of a sheet metal box. Additional problem solving modules will be covered during the course of the class. This includes a Gum Ball machine, a kite construction unit, a marble maze, a Gizmo invention unit and a unit on boat construction. Various computer applications are also covered. 9TH Grade Industrial Technology This is a semester class devoting one quarter to metal working and one quarter to technology. The class is designed to study in greater detail both areas and allows students with past experience to further develop their skills. The areas to be studied in metals include machine safety, sheet metal, bench metal, and hot metals (metal casting, oxyacetylene welding, and arc welding). Basic hand tools and machines will be studied. Students will construct a project as a means to demonstrate their skills and are required to pay for projects they wish to take home. 9TH Grade Small Gas Engines Students learn the basic principles of two cycle and four cycle engines by disassembling and assembling one of each type of engine. The engines will be provided. Time will be allotted for each student to overhaul their own small gas engine, which they furnish if they choose. Small gas engine safety and use of the micrometer and calipers will also be emphasized. |
