Certified Substitute (Substitute Teacher)

The job of certified substitute is for the purpose(s) of implementing plans to ensure student learning is in accordance with the goals and directives of the school and the District in a teacher's absence.
Steps for applying for a certified substitute position:
1. Obtain a Wyoming Substitute Teachers Permit and/or a Wyoming Teaching Certificate from the Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) The website is PTSB
2. Complete the STEDI substitute skills training course with a score of 85% or better on the assessment. The website is http://stedi.org Once there, click on Purchase Training. Several options for training will be displayed. You will need to choose the third option, Sub Skills Online Training Course. If an applicant holds a Wyoming Standard Teaching Certificate, a teaching credential from another state licensing agency or is in the final phase of their teaching education program, they do not need to complete the STEDI training course.
3. Complete and submit a Natrona County School District online application. Applications that do not have a copy of a certificate and a STEDI assessment (when applicable) attached to the application will not be considered complete.


Education: 65 college credits from an accredited college. If an applicant is called to interview, the applicant will be asked to bring an official copy of college education transcript(s) to the interview. NCSD does not offer an alternative path to obtain a substitute teacher permit.

Rate of pay: With a Wyoming Substitute Permit $105 per day/With a Wyoming Standard Teaching Certificate $115 per day.

The job of classified substitute support staff is for the purpose(s) of providing support to teachers, staff, and students to ensure student learning is in accordance with the goals and directives of the school and the District in an employee’s absence. Classified substitute support staff often perform multiple support staff duties within a single day’s assignment. These duties may include being in the classroom; office; cafeteria; on the playground; bus monitor; riding on the special needs buses; large group supervision; and campus supervisor at the secondary levels. Classified support staff substitutes may also work in our special needs classrooms. These may include: Functional Life Skills (FLS), Behavior and Social Skills (BEST program) and Intensive Life Skills (ILS). Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED.
