CY plans back-to-school events

Student schedules available
Students starting seventh, eighth or ninth grades at the new CY Middle School may pick up their class schedules on Friday, Aug. 6. Tours of the building also will be available at that time for students. Seventh-graders are invited from 10 to 11 a.m., while eighth- and ninth-graders may come between 1 and 3 p.m. The new school is located at 2900 Cyclone Dr. Sixth-grade class schedules will be distributed to students during CY WEB orientation welcome at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17. Sixth-grade WEB kickoff planned
CY Middle School's Where Everyone Belongs (WEB) leaders invite all sixth-grade Cyclones to a morning of fun and learning as they meet other new CY sixth-graders on Tuesday, Aug. 17. Parents should bring students to the new CY Middle School at 2900 Cyclone Drive by 8 a.m. on Aug. 17. Students will join fellow sixth-graders and WEB leaders in the main gym while parents are invited to visit with staff in the cafeteria and take a brief tour of the new school building. Parents are invited to return to CY at noon to join their children for a hot dog barbecue. More details are included in invitation letters sent to families. Get ready for sports seasons
Meanwhile, the inaugural sports season for the new CY Middle School gets under way on Aug. 12 with football equipment check-out.
* Seventh-grade football players will receive equipment at 4:30 p.m., while eighth-graders will get theirs at 3:30 p.m. Equipment chick-out will occur this year only at the former CY gym at 2211 Essex. Football practices begin on Aug. 16. Home CY football games will be held on the field at the old school at 2211 Essex, as the grass turf at the new CY won't be ready for this year. District busing for football players will be provided for all practices and games.
* Volleyball practices for sixth- through eighth-graders begins after school on the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 18. All volleyball practices and games will be held in the gyms at the new school, 2900 Cyclone Dr.
* All ninth-graders now participate in sports programs at Natrona County or Kelly Walsh high schools.
* All athletes are reminded that a current athletic physical form, dated no earlier than June 1, 2010, must be on file before any physical practice can begin. For more information, call the CY office at 253-2700.

Back-to-school night set for August
CY students and staff also are inviting families to the new school's inaugural back-to-school night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26. The school will be open from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for families who want to tour the new facility prior to the back-to-school night activities. Brief building overview sessions will be held every half hour, and parents and guardians then will be able to tour the building on their own. CY Web Leaders will be stationed throughout the school to answer questions. The back-to-school program will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, then parents will follow their child's class schedule to visit teachers and become more familiar with CY programs, practices and expectations.
