… our children are our future.
OUR STAFF
Students at Willard Elementary School learn from a cadre of experienced, professional teachers and instructional assistants who consistently put children first. Students will be placed in one of two classrooms at each grade level, prekindergarten through five. In addition to the classroom teachers, students will be served by additional specialists in art, music and P.E., a reading coach, tutors, Title I reading/math teachers, a math coach, a writing coach and an instructional facilitator. Children also benefit from support staff, including a school social worker, school counselors, speech/language professionals and a school psychologist.
OUR CURRICULUM
Willard implemented the Everyday Math curriculum in 2007-08. This is an engaging, challenging and rewarding new curriculum that is supplemented with a Bridges Summer School program focused on math. In reading, students study phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension through their reading curriculum. All students have reading goals and keep track of their own progress. Students also can participate in the summer school reading program, and those in need of additional support have access to teachers who offer small group instruction. In writing, all students have weekly activities facilitated by a schoolwide writing coach. Staff members are highly trained in the 6+1 Traits of writing program. The writing club also publishes a school newsletter that celebrates student and staff accomplishments.
