About our school
University Park offers a small school environment, which creates a safe, nurturing setting. Parents, students and staff members believe in a collaborative effort, so that students acquire a love of learning for a lifetime. The school believes in a strong foundational base in reading, math and writing. It is the desire that parents, students and staff members all continue to set goals for improving their learning.
Our staff
Students at University Park receive instruction from dedicated, caring teachers and teaching assistants. All certified and classified staff members are considered highly qualified. One staff member is completing requirements for National Board Certification. Eleven teachers have completed requirements beyond their bachelor’s degrees and have earned their master’s.
Our curriculum
Students at University Park learn from a well-articulated curriculum in reading, math and writing. High assessment scores are attributed to instructional programs, which include Core Knowledge Sequence, Houghton Mifflin language arts with Spalding phonograms, 6 + 1 Traits of Writing, Step Up to Writing and Saxon Math. Small group tutoring and enrichment classes in math and reading are available. Smaller group instruction is promoted during reading and math instructional blocks.
Our activities
Students attend school from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Playground supervision begins at 8:15 a.m. The first bell rings at 8:25, and classes begin at 8:30.
Students may participate in early morning and after-school activities. Morning activities are available at 7:45 a.m., and after-school activities continue until 4:05 p.m.
University Park students have fun performing at the annual talent show. They hone academic skills during UP START math and reading clubs during the summer and after school, an early morning reading program and study clubs. Students in third- through fifth-grade may participate in the science fair and student council.
Our families
University Park School staff and parents recognize that educating a student cannot be accomplished without involving students, parents and staff. Ten hours of parent volunteer work is requested from each family. Volunteer hours may be completed within the school or home. Assistant children with their homework easily completes this request.
The parent staff organization is known as UP BEAT. The advisory board of this entity is Leadership Council. UP BEAT and Leadership Council meets four times a year to discuss school improvement issues. All parents are members of UP BEAT and are encouraged to participate in the organization’s activities. The primary intent of this organization is to promote school improvement efforts.
Prior to registration, parents are welcome to observe the school and request a personal tour.
