ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Star Lane Center is a problem-based learning program available to all ninth- through 12th-graders in Natrona County. Students earn their core academic credits in English, math, science and social studies during half-day sessions at Star Lane. They take their elective credits at their home school during the other half of the day.

OUR STAFF
Star Lane is home to six teachers who partner with students in learning. Students work in small study groups of eight to 12, led by a teacher. Teachers don’t lecture; they guide small group discussions as students share and test knowledge around a problem theme.

OUR CURRICULUM
Curriculum is embedded in a series of problems, issues, scenarios, ideas or concepts that are timely, relevant and intriguing. Community members and professionals partner with the school to provide real-world expertise as staff creates a “problem” that lead students to the required high school subject matter.
Each “problem” spans about one month and incorporate a path for students to reach their academic goals in language arts, science and social studies. Though rich, applicable math lessons also arise in these “problems,” students learn math in a traditional venue, studying interdisciplinary math I, II or III or statistics.
Public speaking also is a key component of the Star Lane curriculum, with each study culminating in a presentation to an audience of community members.
Though students work in teams, they are graded on an individual basis through an evaluation of portfolios that provide evidence of learning in English, science and social studies.

OUR ACTIVITIES
Students attend one of two sessions each day at Star Lane. The morning session is from 7:45 to 10:45 a.m., and the afternoon session is from 11:55 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. Transportation is provided from any student’s home school.
Students may participate in Science Bowl, History Day, Science Fair, Junior Science and Humanities Symposium and poetry and song nights through Star Lane. They also are free to participate in any of the athletics and activities offered at their home school.
Due to the unique curriculum at Star Lane, school life also includes a rich combination of field trips, guest speakers, lab works and public presentations.

OUR FAMILIES
Parents are encouraged to get involved at Star Lane by serving as the needed experts in their own fields, acting as audience members for student presentations and simply staying in communication with their children and with school staff.
