About our school

Southridge School balances fundamentals with innovative programming, always working to provide students with the best possible education. The three expectations are “Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe,” for self, for others and for property.
Southridge believes that students, parents, staff and community members together share in the responsibility of learning.
Parent support is second to none, and special enrichment opportunities for all students complete the well-rounded education that they receive.
Our staff
Students at Southridge learn from 32 certified staff members and are supported by 14 classified employees. All teachers hold certification for the duties they performed. Nearly half of the staff members at the school have more than 20 years of experience.
Students also have access to a tutor, as well as Reading First specialists who work in reading. A counselor, social worker, speech/language pathologist and enrichment specialist serve the students on a part-time basis.
Our curriculum
Students will begin using Everyday Math in 2007-08. The program provides hands-on activities, problem-solving experiences and connections between math and writing for all students. The Reading First program provides intense, systematic instruction in basic reading skills for students in kindergarten through third grade, and those students spend two hours a day in reading classes. Students in grades four through six study a combined reading program that focuses on reading, writing and grammar together. All students learn through the 6+1 Traits of Writing program, and students also write frequently with their reading programs. Students are encouraged to read a variety of types of writing.
All students have access to enrichment opportunities, as well.
Southridge is in the process of implementing the Response to Intervention model of special education. Students are provided assistance whenever signs arise of difficulty. Beginning in 2007-08, the school will use the Learning Center model to provide services to both special education and at-risk students.
Our activities
Classes at Southridge run from 8:40 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. An on-site before- and after-school childcare program is available through the YMCA for Southridge students. Before- and after-school remediation also is available through the Read Naturally program.
Students also may participate in district-sponsored volleyball and basketball, Lego Robotics, spelling bee, History Day, All-City Off and All-City Band/Orchestra.
Southridge also believes in taking students outside the classroom for real life learning experiences. All students travel to the Casper Planetarium and to ARTCORE performances. First-graders attend the Wyoming Cares/Wyoming Reads program. Third-graders participate in the Farm Expo. Fourth-graders take several trips as the study Wyoming history. Fifth-graders travel to the Teton Science School for a four-day learning experience in the fall.
Our families
Southridge has an active Parent-Teacher Organization that is involved in supporting the school through fundraising, providing supervision at Thanksgiving and Christmas so that staff can have time to share together, volunteering in classrooms, providing enrichment presentations and activities and serving on school committees and in various governance roles. The parent group also sponsors the Halloween carnival and family fun nights.
All parents are encouraged to spend time with their students in the goal-setting and goal monitoring process and in working on academic and behavioral expectations.
