About our school
Roosevelt believes that failure is not an option. As a team, staff members evaluate all students to help them be successful. With an award-winning staff, the school offers classes that are challenging and creative. The school also provides a supportive and personal learning atmosphere with support services to help students succeed, whatever their previous academic experiences.
In 2006, Roosevelt adopted a revolutionary breakfast program that takes all students and staff from the school to the Boys & Girls Club to share breakfast and exercise in a small group setting.
Our staff
Roosevelt’s 16 teachers have a combination of bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Students at the school have access to a guidance counselor, two social workers, a school psychologist and a counselor from Central Wyoming Counseling Center.
Our curriculum
Students at Roosevelt learn math with the aid of teachers and computers, helping them prepare for the Wyoming PAWS test and for life after high school. Reading is integrated in all classes, with an additional basic literacy class available for students who are struggling. Writing is being integrated in classes with teacher training in 2007-08, as well as an analysis of PAWS scores.
Roosevelt students also study physical science, food science, environmental science and biology, as well as U.S. history, world history and modern American studies.
Students also may choose electives in construction technology, computer assisted drafting, building trades, career development, computer applications, foods, intro to art, drawing and painting, and sculpture and printmaking.
A PAWS prep course is available for juniors to practice doing math on computers, review reading concepts and study writing schools. Roosevelt also encourages all eligible students to take advantage of ACE classes, which are courses at Casper College that offer high school and college credit simultaneously.
Roosevelt also is home to a Behavior and Social Skills program for special education students who need behavior support and to a stabilization lab, a self-contained special education program that provides intermediary support for students in crisis. Participants in both programs are placed through the IEP process.
Our activities
Roosevelt is open to students from 7:30 a.m. to 4:25 p.m. Though general classes end by 3:10 p.m., students may participate in a 6th block from 3:10 to 4:25 p.m., offering English, math, science and vocational classes.
Students who wish to participate in sports or take a course not offered at Roosevelt may do so at Kelly Walsh, Natrona County or Midwest high schools.
Students also may participate in student council and Meals on Wheels.
Students and staff also start each semester with a personal and social responsibility orientation. Juniors look forward to participating in the class installation, an interactive art project that is created through interdisciplinary classes. Each year the school also hosts a senior dinner.
Our families
Parents are invited to participate in the Natrona County School District through the Parent and Community Advisory Council.
