Grades: K-6
About our school
Pineview is a cooperative learning based K-6 elementary school on the east side of Casper. Currently, 200 students attend Pineview, and class sizes range from 17 students in the primary grades to 26 in the intermediate grades.
The school uses the nationally known reading program, Success for All, to regularly group and re-group students based on their reading achievement. Students use a hands-on, problem-solving approach to math learning through the Bridges and Connected Math programs.
Philosophically, the school believes in meeting every student at his or her academic level. Students are continually challenged to work to their potential by setting personal goals for higher achievement.
Our staff
Students at Pineview learn from 14 highly qualified teachers on the core staff. The experience levels range from veteran teachers of 25+ years to beginning teachers just finishing their first year. As a Title I school, all of Pineview’s instructional staff and their assistants are required to meet federal standards for teaching and assisting in a Title I school.
In addition to the core teachers, Pineview has support teachers for instrumental music, band, art and PE. Students who qualify have the opportunity to receive tutoring in reading and math from a certified teacher and from instructional assistants under the supervision of a certified instructional facilitator.
Students on individual education plans also can receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and other services. Students also have access to a social worker, building-based counselor, and counselors contracted through Central Wyoming Counseling Center.
Our curriculum
Math programs at Pineview are standards based. Bridges Math is used in K-5, and Connected Math in grade six. Both programs are constructivist based, meaning the emphasis for learning is based on understanding, applying and explaining concept rather than memorizing formulas.
Pineview’s reading program is Success for All. It is a nationally recognized, cooperative learning based program from Johns Hopkins University. It is a well-researched program with proven results.
Students learn to write using the Step Up to Writing model interlaced with 6+1 Traits of Writing. Writing is integrated into all of the core curriculum areas.
Students participate in forming the rules and consequences at Pineview. The discipline system is refined and modified throughout the year during regularly scheduled class meetings. Students learn conflict resolution strategies by applying the Success for All Getting Along Together steps.
Students learn science using hands-on experiments, textbook learning and computer applications. Pineview also is participating in district efforts to adopt an inquiry-based science program.
Learning in social studies is grade-level specific and incorporates textbooks, field trips, presentations and hands-on activities.
Pineview also has a district magnet classroom for students identified as gifted and talented. Students in grades three through six are referred to Pineview for placement in the program and receive instruction in areas of interest specific to their needs. Pineview also has an enrichment coordinator that pulls identified students from the regular classroom and works on projects and activities unique to their interests.
Pineview students also receive formal Spanish instruction from a Spanish teacher through the SALSA program.
