About our school
Crest Hill is a school that embraces 21st Century skills and fun in learning.
Students learn fundamental skills, along with high-tech skills that will be part of their ever-changing world.
A strong language arts curriculum in kindergarten through second grade provides a foundation for intermediate students. Older students experience cross-curriculum learning opportunities, such as robotics, rocketry, inquiry-based science, writing and more!
Our staff
Students at Crest Hill learn from teachers with tremendous experience. The staff has an average of more than 15 years of experience in the classroom, ranging from first-year teachers to at least one teacher with more than 30 years of experience. Two teachers at Crest Hill have earned National Board Certification, and all of the school’s teachers are certified in elementary education.
Students at Crest Hill also have access to a tutor, who works with at-risk kids; two teachers devoted solely to reading; a certified Central Wyoming Counseling Center counselor; and a social worker who works with special education students.
Our curriculum
Students at Crest Hill study math lessons that are aligned to district and state standards through the Bridges curriculum. Students learn to read using small guided-reading groups and books tailored to individual reading levels. Writing is a key focus for the school. Students use the district-approved 6+1 Traits of Writing and have access to an in-school writing center for support. Science lessons vary based on grade level, but the whole school uses an inquiry-based model that encourages children to ask questions and seek out the answers through experimentation.
Students in kindergarten through fourth grade have general music classes, and older students have a choice between band, orchestra or vocal music. All students get a one-hour block of art once a week. Students also have two 30-minute PE classes each week.
A gifted and talented enrichment program is available one day a week for the school’s highest performing students.
Special education students are served by a certified teacher, usually in a pull-out model with some classroom inclusion based on individual needs. Starting in 2007, Crest Hill also will open an intermediate Functional Life Skills classroom.
Our activities
Crest Hill’s school hours are from 8:50 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. The playground opens at 8:30 a.m. for students who ride buses to school. Students also can ride buses to the Boys and Girls Club, the Casper YMCA and area daycares after school.
Clubs and activities vary somewhat from year to year, but recent offerings at Crest Hill have included a Lego First Robotics club, morning read-aloud, a primary art club, an intermediate art club, math clubs for different grade levels, a science club for grades two through four and a sculpture club for grades four through six.
Our families
Parents are encouraged to participate in the school through the Parent Teacher Organization. This group meets at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month in the school commons. Call the school to connect with the current PTO President for more information about the PTO or about the school.
Parents also are expected to take an active interest in their children’s education by discussion school and reading together every day.
