About our school
Centennial Junior High embraces a middle-level philosophy that works to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of the young adolescent.
Students are involved in CORE teams at each grade level, providing smaller learning communities within the larger school that help students develop closer relationships with one another and their teachers.
Failure is not an option at Centennial, and students are offered a pyramid of interventions to help them succeed, regardless of circumstances.
Our staff
Students at Centennial learn from 51 certified teachers, with an average experience level of 10 years. Two of the school’s teachers have earned National Board Certification, and a third is in the application process. Students have access to tutors, a social worker, a school guidance counselor, a school psychologist, a Central Wyoming Counseling Center counselor, a nurse and a math intervention strategist.
The school also has a full-time campus supervisor and student monitors who work to make sure the school is always safe for students and staff.
Our curriculum
Centennial’s math, reading and writing programs are detailed on the “data” page for the school.
In science, sixth-grade lessons are integrated in their course work. Seventh-graders study modern earth science, eighth-graders study life science, and ninth-graders study physical science.
Sixth- and seventh-graders also study the World Explorer program in social studies, while eighth- and ninth-graders study U.S. history.
Students also have the options of studying wood, metal, technology and digital environment vocational courses, Spanish and French, art, family and consumer science and an assortment of team and lifetime sports in PE.
Special education students are served in an inclusion model based on the decisions of their IEP teams. The school also has two functional life skills programs and a behavior and social skills program.
All students have conferences with principals and instructional facilitators at the school to set their own goals for improvement on assessment tests and in the classroom.
Extra help is available for students through tutors, a peer mentor program, the Get ‘R Done after school club, the Wyoming Bridges extended school day program and the Bridges summer program.
Centennial ninth-graders also will have a chance to learn in a one-to-one computing environment starting in 2007-08.
