About our school

Fort Caspar Academy is a public school that was started in 1995 by a group of parents interested in a different approach to their children’s education. Traditional concepts of instruction and discipline combine with a modern understanding of the childhood cognitive process.
The mission of FCA is to train the intellect and character of the student, to teach and prepare students academically for college, as well as for a lifetime of learning and to provide a structured environment that enhances the learning process.
FCA offers students a rigorous, content-specific, sequential curriculum with high expectations for all. Families are empowered to make decisions and accept responsibility in their children’s education. Students are also expected to participate in character development activities focusing on honesty, courage and respect and concern for all and to abide by a uniform dress code.
The school currently is located near the fairgrounds, though a new building is expected to be completed in the Wolf Creek Subdivision, with students moving in the fall of 2008.
Our staff
All FCA teachers are deemed highly qualified. The school has 19 classroom teachers, one resource teacher, two class-size reduction teachers, one instructional facilitator and two tutors. Out of 25 total teachers, 17 have three or more years of experience in the district and 12 have master’s degrees.
Students have access to certified and classified tutors, as well as two Central Wyoming Counseling Center counselors and one social worker.
Our curriculum
Curriculum at FCA is rigorous and sequential. Math is taught with foundational skills that build upon one another throughout the year. All students at FCA learn math on an “advanced” timetable, with kindergartners starting at first-grade level lessons. Reading programs focus on phonics, vocabulary, fluency and text comprehension. Students read novels at their reading level to develop their skills and foster a love of reading. The writing program at the school includes a focus on spelling, grammar and handwriting, as well as vivid self-expression.
Students have regular music, art and PE classes.
Students also take many field trips to experience their lessons first-hand throughout their academic careers at FCA.
Our activities
Classes at Fort Caspar Academy run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Band and orchestra is available before school for fifth- and sixth-graders.
Tutoring for identified and new students also takes place before school. Siblings of band and tutoring students may read in the library during the before- and after-school programs.
After-school sports also are available for fifth- and sixth-graders. Other enrichment activities and competitions, including Odyssey of the Mind, drama club and spelling club are provided before and after school depending on student demand and coaching availability.
Our families
Families at FCA are expected to take an active role in their children’s education.
Every family is expected to donate a minimum of 10 hours per semester to the school. Parents may participate in any of the parent committees, attend PTO meetings, spend time in their children’s classroom, help with sports teams, work in the library or workroom or participate in the life of the school by joining a variety of other activities.
All parents also are members of the Parent Organization. A governing council, made up of elected voting members, meets regularly to act on matters of policy and concern. Meeting dates and members’ names are published online at www.FortCasparAcademy.com.
