Families:

Parent involvement is critical to the academic success of students at North Casper. All parents are expected to get involved in their child’s learning at home, encourage their children to read, attend as many school functions as possible, and talk to their child about the value of education.

A parent involvement committee also organizes several family literacy nights throughout the year.

Parent-teacher conferences are held twice a year.

Students at North Casper use the Saxon Math program to learn the fundamentals of mathematics in a practice-heavy environment. A new version of the curriculum was adopted for the 2007-08 school year, including more problem-solving and writing.

An integrated, multi-sensory language arts program helps students develop strong reading and writing skills. Students learn how to be active readers by reading quality literature. Students also use the 6+1 Traits of Writing program to improve their writing skills.

Science and social studies are taught to the Wyoming State Standards, using a variety of dynamic resources that tie into language arts and math skills.

Homework is part of North Casper’s curriculum. All students will have homework Monday through Thursday. The amount will depend on grade level.

North Casper also is home to two different half-day preschools. One preschool is federally funded and available to children of low-income families based on need. The other is a kindergarten prep preschool funded by Title I.

North Casper students may participate in activities such as Science Club, Reading Club, and Homework Club.

Fifth-graders may participate in district basketball and volleyball.

Breakfast is served at 8:10 a.m. daily.

An after-school homework club meets from 3:20 to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Teaching assistants also provide tutoring before school, after school and at recess. A three-week jump start summer school is available to help students brush up on academic skills.

Buses are available to take students to the Boys & Girls Club after school.

Enrichment opportunities are available for students, and a variety of services are available for both special education and at-risk students.

North Casper also is the magnet school for the elementary level English as a Second Language program in the district.
