Spanish Instruction
All students at Park School receive 15 or 20 minutes per day of Spanish instruction from a certified Spanish instructor. This is the ninth year of Spanish instruction at Park School. Students learn Spanish vocabulary, oral speaking skills and some reading and writing of Spanish.
Kindergarten
Park School features a full-day kindergarten program which focuses on the needs of the early learner. There are 40 kindergartners with one full-time certified teacher, one half-time certified teacher and one full-time classroom assistant.
Features of the kindergarten program include:
• strong literacy skills
• hands-on experiences
• opportunities for creative play
• drama, music and art experience
• developmentally appropriate activities
Early Morning Program Grades 5-6
School begins at 8:00 a.m. for all 5th and 6th graders. All 5th and 6th graders play a musical instrument - either in orchestra or band. They receive music instruction on two or three days of the week. On the remaining days, they are involved in enrichment activities which may include such things at drama, school improvement, DARE, technology, pottery, science club, problem solving, math club, or strategic games. These activities vary each semester.
Early Morning Program Grades K-4
Because the 5th and 6th graders must be at school at 8:00, we offer some options for families with students in grades K-4. Students in these grades may attend a morning reading program or they may stay outside and play on the supervised playground. The morning reading program is located in the library, is supervised by an adult and runs from 8:00 to 8:20. Then all K-4 students go outside for 10 minutes.
