FIRST LEGO League needs volunteers!

By Jenni Luckett
Nearly 500 students are getting ready to take over the Casper Events Center in one of the most energetic academic competitions ever!
The Natrona County School District is hosting the Wyoming FIRST LEGO League Championship on Dec. 1 at the Events Center. About 480 students from all over Wyoming will bring their robotic creations and compete in a series of challenges. This year’s Wyoming FIRST LEGO Champion will receive an invitation to the 2008 World Festival in Atlanta.
YOU can help! This competition will be more than twice the size of the district-level event NCSD hosted at Frontier Middle School last year.
Volunteers are needed to help out with all aspects of the event. Serve as a judge or referee (training provided). Help with team registration. Keep order by providing security. Or, just hang out and serve as a “go-fer” for teams and officials.
If you are interested in volunteering, e-mail Kendall Jacobs, volunteer coordinator, at kjacobs@caspercollege.edu or register online at http://wyomingfll.blogspot.com. For more information about the event, e-mail Jeff Brewster at Jeff_Brewster@ncsd.k12.wy.us.
And, don’t miss out on the special warm-up event Friday, Nov. 30. Dr. John Callas, project manager for NASA’s Mars Exploration Rovers, will share the story of the intrepid Spirit and Opportunity rovers, which are making new discoveries on Mars years after their mission was expected to end. Callas will speak at the Events Center at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30.
