Status update: NCSD facilities

By Jenni Luckett
Central Services Facility: The board room at CSF reopened last month with new paint, HVAC systems and technological upgrades. The folding wall designed to separate the meeting space into two rooms was installed at the end of the month, and a handful of adjustments are being made to the new Smart Board and LCD projection systems. Once completely finished, the board room will mark the final stage of the current remodeling project at CSF.
CY Middle: The NCSD Facilities team continues to work on site acquisition for a new CY Middle School. A site selection committee chose the Mesa 2 subdivision, across Wyoming Boulevard from the Westside Wal-Mart for the school, and detailed site studies, including traffic studies and an environmental survey. The school also is in the programming stage of design, meaning that the architect is working with school employees to determine needs for the new building. CY is tentatively scheduled to open in 2010.
Cottonwood Elementary: Construction has started at the new Cottonwood Elementary School, on the site of the old McKinley Elementary School. Crews are installing rammed aggregate piers for the foundation, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing work is in the bidding process. Cottonwood is tentatively scheduled to open in late 2008.
Evansville Elementary: The NCSD Facilities team continues to work on site acquisition for the new Evansville Elementary School. The district is in the process of working on a new land swap deal with the Town of Evansville. Facilities also hopes to select an architect for the project in November or December. Evansville Elementary School tentatively would open in 2009.
Fort Caspar Academy: Crews are installing structural steel, finishing up the masonry and doing electrical and mechanical rough-ins at the new Fort Caspar Academy. Mechanical units will be set in the next couple weeks, and roofing work will start soon. FCA is scheduled to open in Fall 2008.
Mills/Mountain View: The NCSD Facilities team continues to work on site acquisition for a new Mills/Mountain View combination school that would tentatively open in 2009. Facilities also hopes to select an architect for the project in November or December.
Poison Spider: Crews are doing earthwork at Poison Spider School, grading the site for the foundation. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, masonry and other work is in the bidding process. Poison Spider is tentatively scheduled to open in late 2008.
