Measurement (6th grade style!)
Yesterday in math we hit the third standard (measurement) hard and turned up the heat. It felt like 212 degrees! We closed our books and I brought in my COS (collection of stuff) for a lesson on measurement using both U.S. Customary units and Metric unit. We started the lesson off with a CRISS sticky note strategy on the meter and then went on to estimating, measuring, and weighing objects in the classroom. The COS included a bail of hay, salt blocks, chain, tire off my camper (good circumference lesson), ropes, globe, math manipulatives, pigeon feed, and lumber from the wood
shop. We finished the lesson with some writing and higher level Booms questions (compare and contrast). It was a great measurement lesson on U.S. Customary unit and Metric units for my hand on learners. |
